Back To School S.T.E.A.M. Countdown with Netflix's Project Mc²

I just finished downloading both of my daughter's syllabi and assignment schedules for the upcoming school year. I also printed off our supply lists for grade 4, grade 6 and grade 8 for all three of my kids. I joined all the new online classes for my daughters, whom I school at home. We school part time at home and part time at an academy. Well, one day a week . . . not sure if that qualifies as part time or not?

This year I will be working full time at the academy . . . just one day a week at the academy and then at home the rest of the week following up with the teachers on schedules and syllabus updates and getting those out to all the families once a week. I'm super excited to be part of the amazing team where my girls go to school. I am also keeping a position I started at the end of May that I have been super quiet about.

I will continue my work with a local commercial real estate company in creating all their flyers and media work. I started on a trial basis because I didn't know if I would like it or not. They were super supportive of me telling them I might quit after two weeks, but I have decided to stick with it! So, now I go from a SAHM, home educating blogging momma and all around chauffeur to a blogging mom working outside of the home, working two part time jobs that equal a full time job. Totally not where I saw myself when I graduated from college . . . but here I am none the less.

This past summer has literally disappeared in a blink. I mean it rained nearly every single day in the month of June here in Chicago (so not joking). My daughters and I went away to sleep-away camp in June. My son and hubbie went camping in Tennessee for a week in June. We spent 10 glorious days in Iowa with extended family for a family vacation at the end of June and into July. My youngest daughter got braces in July. We went to museums, water parks, pools, beaches, carnivals and fairs and zoos and parks for the remainder of July.

We are now in the month of August and time is just creeping up on us and we will be back to setting alarms for 6 am again. Oh, how I dread those mornings!! I have to be honest here and say, I am not a morning person. I like to stay up really late at night and watch Netflix. Anybody with me here? There is nothing I like better to do when everyone is sleeping . . . and totally not bothering or interrupting me . . . then watch Netflix. I can't tell you how many shows I have discovered and caught up on this summer!

I'm currently squeezing in the last days of summer with some amazing shows. My kids "own" Netflix during the day, so I can only watch in the wee hours of the night anyway. During these last few weeks of summer my tween daughters are watching a NEW favorite on Netflix.

Project Mc²

Back To School Final Countdown with Netflix

Have you taken a peek at Project Mc²?  Netflix premiered Project Mc² on August 7th and my daughters are hooked!  Project Mc² is a new live-action original tween series featuring four super smart and science-skilled girls who happen to also work for a top-secret spy organization (NBD). Pretty cool, right? People, Science is totally cool!

Project Mc² is a fresh take on the typical tween girl show you’re probably familiar with. The series has S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) organically woven throughout the storyline, making it fun and breaking the stereotype that being smart, funny, stylish and capable are mutually exclusive. Project Mc² reflects today’s tweens in a relatable way, giving girls four empowered female leads to look up to.

Now, as a home educating mom, I adore any television show that highlights Science & Math! Heard of STEAM? Not like steam coming out of your head, but S.T.E.A.M., aka: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. All our favorite subjects, especially Science!! Right now Project Mc², is only at three episodes, which is really a more like a continuous movie I think. They are not really stand alone episodes. My daughters have watched Project Mc² several times already. Netflix--When are more episodes coming??

Project Mc² is really about teaching my daughters that they don't need to be just the cool kid or the fashionable 'it' girl in skinny jeans. It teaches that being smart is cool and that you can totally be who you are. (I wish there was a show like this for my son, he hates being the smartest in his class).

Back To School S.T.E.A.M. Countdown with Netflix

My girls are in grade 4 and grade 6, but for Math, they are studying two grades ahead. We can do this since we home school. I don't have to slow them down if they are moving right along and I can stay longer at one topic if they are not getting something. I love that aspect of home educating my girls. They are cool like that.

Another aspect of home educating my girls is that we can study any Science we want. Although I do have a schedule I follow for Science, I can add in anything else I want. Since my girls LOVE Science so much we have Friday Fun Day - which means Science Friday really! I have Science kits delivered to my house in a monthly kit. One of the best decisions I have ever made. We have fun learning about the weather, worms, we grow mold, dissect owl pellets AND cow's eyeballs, we make batteries , learn how our brains work. AND SO MUCH MORE!

I can't wait to see what new S.T.E.A.M. adventures Project Mc² "cook" up for my S.T.E.A.M. loving girls! Project Mc² ALSO has a set of dolls out now! These are on my daughter's birthday gift list (her birthday is in September).
